Do my friends need to use/register/know about MapTwits in order no see my location?
No, they don't. MapTwits works as a URL shortener for locations. Your friends and Twitter followers can click on the maptwits links to see your location on a map. We make sure to display the maps in the right size and format for your friends depending on whether they are using a computer, a smartphone or a very basic mobile phone with a very small screen.
What kind of places can I search for?
You can search for bars, restaurants, cafés, shops or any kind of businesses. General landmarks, tourist attractions and points of interest work as well. You can also search for specific street addresses, neighborhoods or districts. When using maptwits from a desktop or laptop computer you can also specify your exact location by dragging the marker on the map.
Does MapTwits work in all countries?
Yes, you can search and share locations in all countries. However, your mileage may vary in a few countries: searching for businesses may not be very accurate in some places. In some countries you may have to resort to searching for your street address or even searching for a nearby landmark and dragging the marker on the map to your actual location.
Do I have to opt in to Twitter's location feature to use MapTwits?
No. You can use MapTwits without opting in to Twitter's location feature (privacy setting). MapTwits is perfect for when you just want to casually share your location. You do not need to allow Twitter to keep track of your location for all your tweets.
